Open 24 hours at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro
The Emergency Department (ED) is open 24 hours a day for the treatment of serious and potentially life threatening conditions. If you are unsure whether ED is the right place for you to go, you can call NHS Direct| for advice at any time of the day or night, on: 0845 46 47
All our staff will offer everyone as quick and efficient a service as possible. If patients, relatives or carers have any queries they should be directed to member of staff who will be pleased to help.
The Emergency Department at the Royal Cornwall Hospital can treat more than 200 patients a day and is the only major ED in Cornwall.
It can get very busy, particularly during the summer months. Nearly all patients are seen and treated, admitted or discharged within 4 hours, but the most seriously ill patients will always take priority.
The ED has close links with the Cornwall Air Ambulance which is able to land directly outside the main department on a purpose built helipad with another larger helipad at the rear of the hospital for Royal Navy and other helicopters.
