The Phoenix Stroke Appeal, aiming to raise £500,000 to improve stroke services in Cornwall, has passed its halfway point of £250,000. "We are so proud and happy to have got to this point in 11 months," said appeal chairman Rik Evans. "The people of Cornwall have really rallied to the cause of raising Cornwall’s stroke services to a gold standard."

It’s no surprise that being well nourished is an important factor in wellbeing and recovery from illness, but perhaps what might not be, is the fact that up to 40% of all patients admitted to hospital are already undernourished. Add to that being unwell, loss of appetite, and unfamiliar surroundings and there are large numbers who could be at risk of malnutrition in hospital.

With news of their win in the Nursing Times Student Awards 2012 hot off the press, the team on the cardiac care unit at RCH had a surprise visit from celebrity DJ Toby Anstis from Cornwall’s new radio station, Heart FM
